David Lee

Cello,26, New York, USA, Studied with Joel Krosnick

AGE CATEGORY

Age 25-30

Cellist David Lee was raised in Daegu, South Korea, where he studied with cellists Domzal Jaroslaw, John Koen, and Kyung-suk Park. He was selected for membership in the Daegu Genius Youth Orchestra and participated in its 2010 concert tour with performances at Philadephia’s Kimmel Center and in New York City at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. He has participated in numerous young artist music competitions, taking first prizes in the competition of the Gyeongbuk Arts High School, the Junior Cello Competition of the Music Association of Korea, and the Junior Competition of Eumak-Chunchu in Seoul. In 2014, Lee won first prize at the TBC Concours, earning a performance with the Daegu Philharmonic Orchestra. He entered Oberlin Conservatory to pursue studies with Darrett Adkins. In the United States and abroad, Lee has continued to enter music competitions. He was invited to the Czech Republic to participate and perform in the first round of the 2018 Prague Spring International Music Competition. He won third prize at the 2018 Tuesday Musical Association Scholarship Competition, and he took home the gold prize and Agnew Bach Prize from the 2019 Cleveland Cello Society Competition.

In 2021 He won the Oberlin Conservatory Concerto Competition so he Performed the Prokofiev Sinfonia Concertante with Oberlin Orchestra conducted by Raphael Jimenez in 2022. 

In. 2022 He got a full scholarship to attend the Juilliard school starting his M.M Studying with Joel Krosnick. Also, He won Frist Prize at the 16 LISMA Competition and New York International Young Musician Competition.


Celine Chen

Piano,18, California, USA, Studied with Bernadene Blaha

Celine Chen, 18, was instinctively drawn to the piano and began playing at the age of 4. As a student of Nobuyo Nishizaka, Celine has won countless accolades in numerous piano competitions, including the International Grande Music Competition, the LANSUM International Music Competition, the Seattle International Piano Competition, the Glory International Music Competition, the International Enkor Piano Competition, the James Ramos International Piano Competition, the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, the Grand Virtuoso International Competition, the International Piano Competition Paderewski in Memoriam, the Russian Rhapsody International Youth Competition, the Chopin Avenue Piano Competition, the Spotlight International Competition, the Celia Mendez Young Pianist’s Beethoven Competition, the Claudette Sorel International Piano Competition, the London International Music Competition, and the Odin International Music Competition. Most notably, Celine was a finalist at the MTNA National Competitions, a scholarship recipient from the Friends of William Grant Still Arts Center, a merit awardee from the Music Center’s Spotlight, an alternate from the Kaufman Music Center International Youth Piano Competition, and more recently, the Grand Prize winner of the Young Musicians Inspiring Change International Competition as well as the New York International Classical Music Competition, a Herbert Zipper Scholar, a 2022 winner of the YoungArts National Competition, and a From The Top finalist.

Celine was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in the winter of 2017 after receiving the top prize in the International Music Talent American Protege Competition. The WPTA Finland International Music Competition, similarly, invited her to an intensive piano lesson with Steinway Artist Elena Nesterenko. She has continuously worked with other world-renowned pianists, as well, most notably Lucinda Carver, Robert Thies, Christopher O’Riley, Alan Chow, Paul Roberts, and Elisabeth Pridonoff.

An avid chamber musician, Celine was chosen to tour various cities in Europe as a JCM debut artist, participating in masterclasses with Petr Tchaikovsky and Avedis Kouyoumdjian. Her piano trio placed silver in the PCM Chamber Music Competition and were semi-finalists at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. She also had the chance to participate in Composers Direct!, performing compositions by Esther Ollivier. She was also part of MTAC Friends of Today’s Music, recording commissioned work Beads of Sunlight by Augusta Read Thomas for a world premiere.

Hannah Chen

Harp,16, California, USA, Studied with Jennifer Ellis

Hannah Chen is a 16-year-old harpist and composer from the San Francisco Bay Area, California. She is a student at Oakland School for the Arts studying instrumental music and a student at San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College. She studies harp with Jennifer Ellis and Jessica Siegel and composition with Mario Godoy. Hannah is the harpist for San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra and has also been the harpist for Contra Costa Wind Symphony. As a harpist, Hannah has won 1st place in the BACHAS Yvonne LaMothe Schwager Competition, 1st place USIMC Competition, and 1st in the Charleston International Baroque Competition. She has also been a prizewinner in the American Harp Society National Competition.

Hannah’s compositions aim to combine new music trends with influences from romantic and impressionist classical music. As a composer, Hannah’s pieces have been premiered and performed by the Argus Quartet, Music at the Mission’s Chamberfest summer program, and at the Wildflower Composers’ Camp. She has been a prizewinner in the Bay Area Creative Foundation CYA Awards and the SFCM Pre-College Kris Getz competition. She is also very interested in film scoring and music technology and has been in summer programs from Berklee College of Music and the SFCM Technology and Applied Composition Immersive.

Avery Armstrong

Piano,9, California, USA, Studied with Annamarie McCarthy

Age 10 and below

Avery Armstrong has been studying piano since the age of four, and at the age of six, she started studying at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-college Division under Annamarie McCarthy.

She has participated in numerous competitions and recitals and she is the First Prize winner of various competitions including Elite International Music Competition, United States International Music Competition, Chicago International Music Competition, Spotlight International Competition, Crescendo International Music Competition, Opus National Music Competition, New York International Young Musician Competition, American Protege International Piano and Strings Competition, US New Star Competition. She has performed at Carnegie Hall three times. Besides playing piano, Avery enjoys playing table tennis, swimming, creative writing, reading, coding, biology, and chemistry!
